WE CREATE THEIR WRETCHED STATUS — THEN WE USE IT TO MALIGN THEM.
Bullfighting in 60 Seconds
It is hard for the objective observer to enjoy the expressions on the faces of the spectators. The bull may suffer slightly less than critics claim, but can the minds behind the faces of the excited audience really take more pleasure in seeing the magnificent animal die rather than live? If they can so distance themselves from living things, then they have swallowed the dangerous fairytale that places mankind over nature. If the bull is a symbol of nature, we are reenacting its ritual destruction and gloating over its fall. What this means for the future of our biosphere is alarming to say the least.
Our Colleague Marta Esteban is Interviewed on Behalf of the Bulls
It hurts me to say it, but the Spanish are a savage, insensitive, and ignorant people. These cruel events have the church’s blessing. In the Canaries at election time, candidates will campaign by offering to supply more bulls for the fiesta. I never once saw anyone object. Everyone goes; they take their children. In Spain, about 200 animals are killed every day for entertainment. That’s eight terrible deaths every hour.
